Take your date to these hidden gems around South Africa

eat at a restaurant

Restaurants in South Africa have pleasantly surprised us. We have certainly upped our foodie game. With so many stylish eateries out there, it is almost impossible to choose just one.

At last, we have selected three hidden gems from Joburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Joburg: Try Clico Boutique Hotel

For the most romantic dinner date

Clico Boutique Hotel Restaurant

Opened years ago in 2006, Clico Boutique Hotel is perfectly situated in the tranquil, leafy and upmarket suburb of Rosebank.

Poised to accommodate corporate guests as well as leisure seeking tourists, this 70-year-old Cape Dutch building is an engaging mix of old and new. Moreover the space is intimate and unpretentious, which we appreciate. Moreover the personalised interaction with their staff is incomparable.

Meanwhile this beautiful eatery meets your needs by offering 5-star cuisine and exceptional service. We recommend visiting for a dinner date, the space is oh so romantic and the food certainly acts as an aphrodisiac.

Start with the sweet and seductive watermelon and ricotta salad, marinated in mirin accompanied by homemade ricotta, chilli infused honey finished off with Parma-ham crisp. Afterward indulge in the slow-cooked lamb rib, lamb rump and lamb croquette accompanied by apricot and mint gel, roasted baby carrots and a tantalizing jus.

Clico Restaurant prides itself on unique seasonally inspired menus. Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, we are open seven days a week. Hotel guests and non-guests are equally welcome.

Good to know: Clico offers nine comfortable and beautifully appointed rooms so why not extend the experience?

Cape Town: Try Constantia Glen

For sharing

With winter in the air and the weather cooling down, Constantia Glen is pulling out all the stops for the season. Take your plus one and indulge in a generous platter for two of charcuterie, tasty cheese, mixed Mediterranean salads and olives and their famous Flammkuchen bread which is wood-fired. In addition, they are ideal for sharing, the platters are a delight and pair beautifully with the estate’s flagship Bordeaux reds, Constantia Glen THREE 2017 and FIVE 2018.

Durban: Try Bird&Co

For the best chciken takeaway of your life

Bird&Co Chicken

They are known as Durbans best kept secret. This chicken takeaway spot is outstanding and we finally understand why. Bird&Co rules the roost and they don’t mean to brag, but  their peri-peri chicken is sensational.

So grab your date while you ruffle her feathers amongst this well-known chicken takeaway franchise. Immediately order the ½ deboned peri chicken because you won’t regret it and take your date to the beach front.

Don’t be a chicken and ask her out on a date!
