The Jozi nightlife scene has taken a little knock since COVID but don’t you worry as we’ve been out and about lately and we can definitely feel a resurgence. New cocktail bars are opening up every week (check out our article on Archer bar & eatery) and even the hip and happening are coming up from Cape Town to establish their presence. Well we’ve found two of the best nightlife hangout spots in Joburg that not only offers a great vibe but also have the best Instagrammable corners for your perfect selfie. Here is our short list of two places you need to visit this weekend.
A Streetbar Named Desire

What’s the vibe: quite frankly this is one of the best hang out spots in johannesburg, with a naughty negroni in hand of course. This watering hole is so worth going for a round, or two… or three. It’s down to earth yet still classy and it is just one of Jozi’s most awesome hang out spots and we love it.
#HelloRecommends: that you visit early evening, around 5pm, not only do they the vibiest live music over Thursday and on the weekend but the entire bar has a 180 degree view over some of Joburg’s most beautiful treetops. The mood is always lively and thrilling and there is also a downstairs quieter dining area too if you’re b for boring.
Oh and the vegetarian tapas are mouth watering full stop. They serve roasted cauliflower steak, spiced chickpeas with a side of fresh pita, the most delicious butternut with cardamon and ginger, Persian mujadara, pickled beetroot carpaccio, just so inventive and so tasty. The Greenhouse

What’s the vibe: it’s all about la dolce vita over at this brand new nightlife hangout in Sandton. So if you love pleasure and greenery then this is your new spot. There’s eye-opening green glamour wherever you look, from the walls to the ceilings it’s all magical greenery, we love the ambience. Oh and you can wine and dine inside a velvet yellow seated booth. Too cool!
#HelloRecommends: visiting for a Saturday brunch party or a Thursday eve from 7pm. There is an indoor bar as well as an entire outdoor bar and seated area oh and did we mention their cocktails are uh-mazing? What more of an excuse do you need? Okay so our favorite is called ‘Respect Thy Elder’ its R150 but worth every penny. It is the perfect balance of elderflower and their finest vodka, served with edible flowers on top and if this isn’t enticing enough, they serve one of their cocktails in a giant parrot glass mug.
The setting is rich but so is the food, it is quite delectable. We love their sharing plates, ideal for a cocktail and a side snack, from their flatbread to their Tandoori style cauliflower to their spicy falafel, it is all so flavorsome and memorable.
Most Instagrammable Location: check out the indoor bar surrounded by the abundance of greenery. Note to make sure you get in the signature hanging plant ceiling with lantern lights.
