If you’ve ever wandered down Sea Point’s buzzing main road just as the sun begins to dip into the Atlantic, you’ll know the energy is unmatched. Nestled right in the heart of Sea Point’s town – just a stone’s throw away from the sea – you’ll find Una Mas Mezcaleria, a vibrant Mexican eatery bringing bold flavour and even bolder vibes to this iconic street.
On the evening we visited, the restaurant was packed to the brim. Tables spilled with laughter, clinking glasses and animated conversation. Friends catching up over cocktails, families sharing generous plates, couples leaning in close – it felt less like a restaurant and more like a celebration. The atmosphere was maculate; every detail, from the music to the mood, created a seamless slice of Mexico in Cape Town. We were certainly shouting its name – “One More” – as we simply never wanted the night to end.
We were sat at the prime spot in Una Mas: the bar counter. Here, we could chat to the bartenders shaking cocktails across from us, servers who walked past checking if everything was okay, and chefs through the hole in the wall. We started the night with a Classic Margarita – sharp, citrusy and salty – alongside a refreshing Paloma cocktail that delivered that unmistakable grapefruit sparkle. Both were beautifully crafted and set the tone for the evening.

To begin, we ordered the Empanada De Mexicana, crisp on the outside and generously filled within. It was the kind of starter that disappears quickly, each bite delivering comforting warmth and spice.
For mains, we leaned into indulgence. The Loaded Nachos arrived piled high – a colourful, decadent spread that demanded to be shared. Layered, generous and packed with flavour, they were the ultimate crowd-pleaser.
Alongside this, the Cocida Lenta Carne soft taco was a standout. Tender, slow-cooked beef wrapped in a soft tortilla, balanced with fresh toppings that elevated every bite. It was rich yet beautifully composed– the kind of dish you immediately want to order again.

Instead of traditional dessert, we opted for a bold finale: a shot of Los Locos Tequila Reposado. Smooth, warming and the perfect punctuation mark to an already vibrant evening. Made in Mexico from the rolling hills of Jalisco, this tequila embodies its name: crazy.
What makes Una Mas special isn’t just the food – it’s the feeling. Sitting there, surrounded by the hum of Sea Point and the salty air drifting in from the ocean, we truly didn’t want to leave this little slice of Mexico in Cape Town.
Una Mas isn’t simply a dinner spot – it’s an experience; a lively, flavour-forward, joy-filled experience, right on one of the Mother City’s most iconic streets.
And, judging by the full tables and electric atmosphere, it’s clear we weren’t the only ones who felt that way.
