Hello Summer, hello sunshine and hello colour!

Modle showcasing Italian fashion

For many women, it’s not uncommon to find their wardrobe filled with a combination of varying shades of black, grey, navy and white: a somewhat sad selection of neutrals, but at the same time fabulously fashionable at best. It’s very easy to shy away from the bright yellow dress in favour of a quieter navy, and this can easily become the default. But we’re here to change that conception this Summer with help from one of the premier Italian fashion online brands.

HJ caught up with fashion guru, Ulrike Bollmann; Owner, Designer and Founder of U/R Italian, who talks us through 5 chic ways to add colour to your wardrobe this Summer.

1 - Find complementary pieces that go well together

Of course, you can style any piece of clothing however you’d like, but this Summer we’re focusing on bright, fun, colour fashion items that speak personality and vibrancy. Pieces like long wash skirts or shorts are some of our favourite things to pair with vibrant coloured tank tops and tee’s that too have a bit of flair and flavour to them. A big hit this Summer are long flowing skirts, made from light silk or cotton material, that can be styled with literally anything.

2 - Accessories

What better way to brighten up your Summer look than with a fun pair of sunnies or a stylish handbag that speaks to personalities. The best part, sunnies go with absolutely everything, even colourful sunglasses that add an added element of flair. Accessories can tie a cool and colourful look together be it a belt, hat, necklace or even a Summer inspired pair of colourful earrings; even shoes.

3 - Have fun with colourful patterns

What says, “Hello Summer” better than a colour dress that delivers a fashion message of style with its patterns and diverse colour contrasts.

We love dresses because you don’t have to do a lot of mixing and matching to put together an outfit, especially in South Africa with the warm sunshine and colour environment! Play around with fun, flirty dresses this Summer that are not only fashionable, but can also be transformed from a day look to a night look by a change of shoes and accessories.

4 - Mix colours together!

Who said certain colours have to go with certain tones and match? This Summer it’s time to be daring and wear colour from head to toe, showcasing different statement colours that you wouldn’t normally wear. Don’t be afraid to mix whatever colours are in your closet. Pink and green make a beautiful combo! So do pink and red! Honestly, most of the colours in your closet can mix and match, so go ahead and try mixing a yellow skirt with an orange patterned top.

5 - That statement handbag

If you don’t have the confidence for bold colour blocking, adding some arm candy with a colour-pop handbag and a delicate matching bracelet or necklace that will give you that feel-good feeling from looking at colour. In colour therapy, yellow is said to brighten your mood and give you energy, while blue is a calming colour to help you focus. This Summer, have fun with our exclusive Italian fashion brands online and opt for an unusual handbag, something that screams fashion-statement like our Jelly Bags or our Secret Stud bags.
