Vans Premium Old Skool Music Collection: Three Eras, One Icon

Vans Old Skool has taken itself to a new level. No longer just a skating shoe, the Premium Old Skool Music Collection has become a social statement of fashion and heritage. Therefore, Vans’ three new drops are a throwback to musical eras that shaped current worldly ways under one name.
Revisiting the Old Skool Era
Diving into skating history, the new collection is an ode to the first Style 36. Also known as the original Old Skool, it was first released in 1977. This was Vans’ second ever skate shoe and first design to feature the iconic sidestripe.
Furthermore, it was designed for those individuals who moved to their own beat. The shoe was worn by people found in “punk’s gritty dive bars, Warped Tour stages and hip-hop’s underground cyphers.” Hence, artists, outcasts and game-changers defined the Old Skool.
Premium Old Skool Music Collection
The Vans Premium Old Skool Music Collection remixes prints, colours and textures from music’s most defining moments in history, presenting pop culture at its finest. Now with upgraded comfort, enhanced cushioning, dialed-in fit and archival details, the evolution of the Old Skool to the Premium stays true to its roots. Naturally, Vans is always moving towards becoming more modernised and fashionable.
The updated silhouette features a seamless feel with 30% bio-based Sola Foam ADC insoles, glossy sidewalls, higher foxing tape and throwback branding.
Additionally, Vans tapped into musicians and skaters who embody the duality between the 90s-era edge and modern style. Ultimately, they curated the Premium Old Skool Music Collection with musical communities in mind.
The Paranoyds, Nelly Morville, Voice of Baceprot, Basral Graito, Little Simz, Helena Long, Hi-Tech and Etienne Gagné are some crews and individuals who inspired the new design.
First Drop
Firstly, Vans throws it back to the energy of punks and divas. The new shoe drop will feature bold leopard prints and standout solid lines inspired from the 70s and 80s.
Second Drop
Thereafter, Vans takes us back to the Vans Warped Tour with mosh pits, stage dives and shared love for music. Featuring the classic checkerboard, two-tone colour ways and flame prints, this drop captures the rebellious Y2K spirit.
Third Drop
Finally, with vibrant colours atop classic gum soles, Vans pays homage to the underground hip-hop scene. This is what first inspired the Old Skool evolution nearly 48 years ago.
Dropping monthly beginning on 13 February at Vans retail locations, the Premium Old Skool Collection will redefine society and fashion movements. Vans hopes those who wear their Premium Old Skools will uphold the mindset of “Off The Wall.”
