Volvo is making waves with Waze
Waze is one of our favourite go-to apps when it comes to navigating our way between destinations. Evidently, having it readily available in your vehicle is an absolute win! That’s why we are very excited about the fact that Volvo has now included Waze in all their vehicles’ in-car app libraries. Well, those with Google built in around the globe, which means China, South Korea and Vietnam are unfortunately not included.
Through the collaboration between Volvo Cars, Google and Waze, the in-car Waze app is now available to drivers in the US and Asia Pacific for the first time. Since Volvo Cars intends to provide customers with the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way, having Waze as part of their in-car navigation options certainly adds to the safety aspect of it.
With a one-time setup after downloading the app in the Google Play Store in your Volvo Car, you’ll have instant access to real-time routing, navigation and alerts. Ultimately, this will make your journey much easier, since you won’t have to hassle with phone-related distractions while driving.
The in-car Waze app is seamlessly displayed on Volvo Cars’ infotainment system and utilises more of the centre screen, which makes navigation even more comfortable. In fact, it comes with a bigger, bolder eye-level display area.
Erik Severinson, Volvo’s global head of new car programmes and operations strategy, says: “We’re continuing to expand our in-car app offer to bring more options and benefits to our customers.” He adds that this allows their customers to personalise their cars. He also says that they are committed to continuously improve the experience in Volvo cars. In essence, this is done through their in-house software development and ongoing collaborations like this most recent one with Google and Waze.
Furthermore, the Director of Marketing and Partnerships at Waze, Aron Di Castro says they are thrilled about the collaboration. “[Volvo Cars’] car owners around the world can now access the best of Waze real-time navigation, routing and traffic alerts through the car’s infotainment system… Having Waze’s real-time navigation, routing and alerts seamlessly displayed in the car, without needing to connect your phone to the car, makes for a simplified and seamless driving experience.”
Apparently, with the Android emulator offered on the Volvo Cars Developer Portal, Waze could develop and test the in-car app virtually, alongside the in-car infotainment system. Ultimately, this process brought about a high-quality user experience – one that will surely have Volvo fans drive comfortably and phone-free.
In addition to this new safety add-on, Volvo Cars also aims to become a fully electric car maker by 2030 and to also be a climate-neutral company by 2040.
