Week of Italian Cuisine in the World takes over Gauteng
Ciao HJ. Did you know that this year was the 6th week of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World? The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World is a celebration like no other and rather genius we might add.
Who doesn’t love all things Italian, delicious food, a beautiful culture, wonderful spirited people and their wine is gustoso (tasty fo r you non Italian speakers).
So what happened, who was invloved and why is this event such a spectical on the Italian calendar each year?
The week starts with a weekend showcase of fine wines and Prosecco from Italy, this year the event was held at Hyde Park Corner and labled “Vino in Piazza ” from 12 to 14 November 2021. HJ personally attended the event and you would have seen some awesome images on our social media channels. We’ve added a couple repeats here for those of you that missed out.
We were first in line and tried all things italian. Bellissima! Especially the decadently sweet and well rounded Italian wines and what is an Italian festival without Prosecco?
The event then moved to the prestigious “Prue Leith Cooking School” in Centurion where a demonstration of the “Cesarine” – three Italian home chefs part of the “Cesarine” network was organized. They presented incredible, traditional pasta-based recipes from their regions in Italy: Emilia-Romagna, Toscana and Sardinia.
The third round was held at The Italian Club in Bedfordview, which was a “Cooking Competition”, where 3 teams made up of representatives of the Italian community competed under the guidance of the three Cesarine, making their recipes in front of an audience of about 70 people who ate a dinner seated with a Menu from the “Settebello” Club Restaurant. An Italian chef – best known as King of Carbonara -, Chef Luciano Monosilio, acted as the judge.
Another demonstration of the Cesarine and Chef Luciano took place at a school in the Community Center of Wadeville, Municipality of Ekurhuleni for 35 students in the presence of representatives of the Ekurhuleni Municipality (Office of the City Manager and Directory for Women and Children).
The final event was held at the Scientific Office of the Italian Embassy in Pretoria also organized on the 17th of November Webinar titled “Can pasta contribute to a healthy diet?” Debunking myths on pasta – Can pasta be consumed without guilt? Is “carbophobia” justifiable and is it influencing dietary habits? What is its nutritional value?
