How Does it Work?

During the laser hair removal treatment, a laser emits a filtered light that is absorbed by the hair pigment, melanin. The light energy is converted to heat, which inactivates the hair follicle.

But is it permanent? The short answer is: Yes. If you choose a reputable clinic that uses high-quality lasers and well-trained therapists, it can be permanent. A hair follicle can never grow back once it has been treated properly. But, it’s important that the hair is in its anagen phase (growing phase) for it to be successfully treated.

Sometimes, hair can stay dormant for years. This is why some people might need maintenance treatments, because dormant hair can start to grow again.

Also, there are many factors to keep in mind when it comes to the success of laser hair removal. These include hormonal changes, medication, the type of laser treatment and more. Tzvia Hermann from The Laser Beautique explains: “I always tell our clients, laser hair removal is a medical treatment. There are no hard or fast rules with any medical treatment. Some are lucky; others might need sixteen treatments. On average we say one needs between eight to twelve treatments.”

Consider this before your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Laser Hair Removal is only effective on dark and/or pigmented hair, but The Laser Hair Beautique can treat light hair with Electrolysis.

The Laser Beautique recommends eight to twelve treatments total, which are to be done within four to six-week intervals. Then, after the completion of your course, you can expect an 80% to 90% reduction of hair.

Hormonal changes, medication, nutrition, supplements and genetics could interfere with your hair’s growth cycle and stimulate follicles in the dormant stage. Ultimately, this could have an impact on the amount of sessions required. Speak to your therapist beforehand.

Areas affected by hormones – like your face, underarms and bikini line – might need more treatment sessions.

The Dos when it comes to Laser Hair Removal

1. Wear loose-fitting clothes around the areas that will be treated. This will make the treatment process easier for the therapist.

2. Shave the treatment area the night before or the morning of your laser hair removal treatment. This will allow the laser to penetrate the follicles more effectively.

3. Inform your therapist of any chronic medication or medical conditions you might have.

4. Exfoliate three to five days prior to your treatment to improve its effectiveness.

5. Inform your therapist if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

The Don'ts of Laser Hair Removal

1. Try to avoid excessive heat (sun exposure, steam rooms, saunas and heavy gym sessions) for a couple of days after treatment.

2. Do not apply alcohol-based deodorant to the treatment area for at least a day after treatment.

Every laser hair removal treatment has protocols to adhere to, which is crucial to successfully get rid of unwanted hair.
