Blok Urban Living today announces a public weigh-in process for the retail space at EIGHTY2 ON M
The urban living specialists at BLOK are once again taking innovative steps to cater to community needs at the firm’s latest project, EIGHTY2 ON M, by offering both future residents and general Sea Point community the joy of choice.
Jacques van Embden, Managing Director at BLOK, notes that communal spaces in urban neighbourhoods are vital to the joy of living. “A neighbourhood is loved by its community for its precious and unique spaces within it … Spaces in which experiences, memories and moments of joy are created. For the first time ever, we are giving you, the community of Sea Point and those who love the neighbourhood, an opportunity to vote for what you want to experience in the Sea Point high street in EIGHTY2 ON M,” he says.
EIGHTY2 ON M will be a residential building with shared spaces, including a retail area on the first floor. The choice in question is what exactly will feature in the communal retail hub. For the first time, the very people that will benefit from a new development are being invited to have their say and determine what will be included.
“The decision to reach out for comment reflects BLOK’s commitment to providing a living space that perfectly suits the community in which is it situated,” says van Embden.
And the choices are:
1. Urban food bud created by Yes&
YES& proposes an interactive market where Seapointers could access locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, linking small-scale urban farmers to the city. Yes& Studio is led by Amy Thompson and Rhuben Jacobs, both landscape architects interested in creating positive space for people to connect within the city.
2. Living Gallery created by THEFOURTH
This space is proposed by THEFOURTH – a contemporary art gallery and design showroom. The hybrid nature of THEFOURTH promotes interdisciplinary connection and collaboration in order to foster a community of creative professionals THEFOURTH’s idea is that the area be used as a dynamic space showcasing art and design in an interactive environment, through group exhibitions and solo presentations.
3. Sound Space created by WAUW
An architectural practice based in cape town, founded by Eric van Den Berg and Erik Janse van Rensburg, WAUW is a solution driven dynamic team at the forefront of design and technology, both in design process and execution. WAUW proposes that the space be used as an oasis for live music experiences, community radio and conversation and playful discovery of instruments and sound.
