Apple tv+ The Lost Bus

With all the hype at the moment around the iPhone 17 doing the rounds (yes, like you we do fancy the new iPhone Air, very sexy), we thought this is as good a time as any to revisit the entertainment side of that Apple product in your hand or linked to your big screen. We sometimes forget just how much the Apple Streaming platform has on offer through their Music and TV offerings. We use the apps daily, more so the Music app in our case, but do we ever really browse what’s available across the spectrum. And that’s where we come in. Check out some of our top highlights that are now available across the Apple Streaming portfolio.

Our Top 3 Apple Music Playlists

1. The Isgubhu Playlist

Let’s start with a few curated playlists we found, which we think will make those trips both to work or on weekends a little more vibey. The Isgubhu playlist is described as a selection celebrating an evergreen and ever-growing set of dance and electronic genres sweeping the continent – from amapiano, gqom, Afrohouse, kwaito, Shangaan electro, and more. With Isgubhu being a zulu word meaning ‘beat’, this playlist is your primer into these sounds, featuring classic hits from the most influential names, plus rising stars and artists to keep an eye on.

2. The Africa Now Playlist

The Africa Now playlist highlights that the pan-Africanist ideal never died—it morphed into hybridized sonic fragments that connect Joburg to Nairobi via Lagos and Accra. One of the latest testaments to the continent’s far-reaching musical ingenuity is Salle, the Afrobeats star who just released her highly anticipated Only Sad People Smile EP. If you find the title even a little bit unnerving, know that Salle put the project together with the express intention of making the listener feel better about not feeling great.

3. The Africa Now Playlist

African music is a cultural melting pot of rich, diverse sounds and diasporic blends. From Dakar to Mombasa, Lagos to Cape Town, this playlist showcases the new sounds bubbling up from across the continent. Currently, that means celebrating talents like Salle, Ossie Grace, Gyakie 6LACK, Morravey, ru Magixx, Fola Victony and taves, to name a few highlights on the Africa Rising  Playlist.

Our Top 4 Movies and Series on Apple TV+

1. The Lost Bus

On the thriller front, Apple Original Films recently celebrated the world premiere of the high stakes thriller “The Lost Bus,” directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Greengrass and starring Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey and Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner America Ferrera. The compelling drama premieres globally in early October on Apple TV+. Directed by Greengrass and inspired by real events, “The Lost Bus” is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a wayward school bus driver (McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (Ferrera) battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.

2. All of You

Having premiered globally on Apple TV+ in late September, the highly anticipated romantic drama, “All of You,” includes Emmy Award winner Brett Goldstein (who also co-writes and produces) and Imogen Poots, alongside Emmy Award-winning director, co-writer and producer William Bridges. Best friends since college, Simon (Brett Goldstein) and Laura (Imogen Poots) drift apart when she takes a test that finds her soulmate, despite years of unspoken feelings between them. Over the years, as their paths cross and diverge, neither can deny the feeling that they’ve missed out on a life together. Faced with the uncertainty of changing the course of their lives, are Simon and Laura willing to risk everything to experience the love that had been between them all along, or should they accept their fate? “All of You” explores whether one person can ever be your everything in this humorous and heart-wrenching romantic drama.

3. The Last Frontier

Also debuting in early October is “The Last Frontier,” a new original drama series from co-creators Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio. The 10-episode thriller will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, October 10, followed by new episodes every Friday through to December 5. “The Last Frontier” follows Frank Remnick (Clarke), the lone U.S. marshal in charge of the quiet, rugged barrens of Alaska. Remnick’s jurisdiction is turned upside down when a prison transport plane crashes in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates. Tasked with protecting the town he’s vowed to keep safe, he begins to suspect the crash wasn’t an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with far-reaching and devastating implications.

4. The Sisters Grimm

And one just for the kiddies, Apple TV+ has debuted the trailer for “The Sisters Grimm,” the all-new animated fantasy adventure series set to premiere in early October. Based on Michael Buckley’s New York Times bestselling book series, “The Sisters Grimm” is a journey of adventure and heart about mystery-solving sisters descended from the Brothers Grimm who, while very different, make a pretty great team.
