Brotherly Rivalry: The Harris Brothers Face Off at the 2024 Polocrosse World Cup
Sibling competition is a tale as old as time, but the stakes have never been higher for the Harris brothers as they compete for opposing countries at the 2024 Ignition Group Polocrosse World Cup. Pretoria-based Stef Harris, who moved from Zimbabwe to South Africa in 2005, is proudly representing South Africa. Meanwhile, his older brother Damien Harris vies for the title with the Zambian national team. Adding to the family dynamic, their father, Henry Harris – a legendary polocrosse player – is coaching the South African Ladies’ side!
Reflecting on the upcoming contest, Damien said: “We both have a strong chance of winning, and it’s an exciting yet challenging time for us. Our journey took different paths as we originally hailed from Zimbabwe but had to leave and ended up in different countries. Despite this separation, our love for the game and each other has never waned. Playing against my brother in such a competitive environment will be tough, as we have always enjoyed playing together. I wish him all the best and know that our shared experiences will only enhance the spirit of the competition!”
Stef echoed his brother’s sentiments, recalling his admiration for Damien and their father on the polocrosse field. “I am looking forward to playing against Zambia the most as I feel we have a point to prove, and playing against my brother is always a challenge I welcome!”
The 2024 Ignition Group Polocrosse World Cup is currently taking place at KwaZulu-Natal’s Durban Shongweni Club and will culminate on 28 July 2024. For the full schedule of events, visit www.polocrosseworldcup2024.com or buy tickets from TicketPro.
