Cocktail party prep for World Cocktail Day

Angostura bitters for the perfect cocktail

The House of Angostura has added more flavour to its South African offering, with two brand-new innovations. ANOGOSTURA® orange and ANOGOSTURA® cocoa bitters. Since World Cocktail Day falls on 13 May, why not shake things up a bit with some fun cocktails this weekend?

While you could go all out throwing a spectacular themed party, you really don’t have to go to those lengths. In fact, the right-now decade ushers in an era of casual cocktail parties, infused with meticulously crafter cocktails and a dash of creativity – perfect for a spontaneous get together.

With The House of Angostura’s new aromatic biters, there is no reason why you can’t experiment, stir, shake and sip on World Cocktail Day.

Make your own Martinis

Why not get things going with your favourite Martini? With the House of Angostura’s bitters (even the original ones) you have ample inspiration on your side to create the perfect, Classic Martini. Or, go for a Pink Gin Martini – simplicity and elegance with six generous dashes of aromatic bitters. Alternatively, opt for an Espresso Martini and see how a few dashes of the ANOGOSTURA® cocoa bitters add another layer of complexity to it.

Get cocktail savvy

Ask each guest (or pair of guests) to nominate a cocktail and to bring the main ingredients to the party. Then, challenge each other to add a new twist to the signature cocktails by experimenting with bitters like those new ones from The House of Angostura. This is sure to shake things up!

Party prep

Make a batch of simple sugar syrup to keep at hand this World Cocktail Day. Gather a bowl of lemons, oranges and limes, stock up on tonic water, soda water, ginger beer, lemonade and the three different ANGOSTURA® bitters. Also, don’t forget the ice! Then, mix up a jug or two of Rock Shandy – the ultimate refreshment to quench one’s thirst between cocktails and to keep those designated drivers happy.

A Caribbean kitchen

Apparently, in the Caribbean, ANGOSTURA® bitters are as much an essential in the kitchen as in the bar. Ideally, they use it for marinades for chicken or steak, and they even use it in desserts. While you’re stirring things up, why not experiment with some ice cream and ANGOSTURA® cocoa bitters? Or, try adding some of the orange flavoured bitters to your chocolate desserts.

Either way, have a happy World Cocktail Day!
