The Grand Exotic
This magical venue in Sheffield Beach on the Dolphin Coast transports you to another time in an instant. The clever architectural marvel infuses European, Eastern and Persian influence reflected in the beautifully ornate structure. A high domed octagonal ceiling in the centre, reminiscent of a Mughal era is adorned with a gorgeous crystal chandelier, surrounded by stained glass windows with lotus-style detail. Old-world charm permeates through the property which boasts an ornamental garden, a treasure trove of vintage décor and objects d’art.
The Grand Exotic’s menu is traditional with a spin, including a choice of delicious meals inspired from a diverse, eclectic mix of culinary styles. We opted for the Grand Benedict, which came in the form of poached eggs and salmon, served on an aubergine and parmesan fritter, complete with a flavourful thyme and lemon infused hollandaise sauce. A wonderful venue for breakfast, lunch or a decadent high tea, it’s the perfect place to unwind and indulge. Unfortunately, no under 14s are allowed.
Signature Restaurant
Highly acclaimed restaurateur and entrepreneur, Desmond Mabuza recently opened his latest venture in uMhlanga. Signature Restaurant is based in Oceans Mall and it’s an exciting addition to the Signature Restaurant Group’s portfolio, taking the dining scene of Durbs to new heights. It also marks a significant milestone for the restaurant group, which celebrates its fourteenth anniversary this year. The restaurant boasts floor-to-ceiling opulence and the design epitomises sophistication and style. Furthermore, the menu features the same award-winning wine list and dishes that the dining destination became known for, as well as some new additions like regionally inspired dishes that pay homage to its now coastal location.
Rockets uMhlanga
The recently opened Rockets uMhlanga is the latest addition to the Rockets group’s portfolio and comes in the form of a true coastal paradise. Rockets Beach Club’s restaurant, Lolita’s Bar and Rooftop occupy three floors and simulate the unforgettable atmosphere of Rockets Bryanston and Menlyn Times Square, with a fusion of coastal flair. Expect a menu filled with flavour, including delightful mains, desserts, tapas, sushi and platters. Do keep their dress code in mind, since they don’t allow shorts or slops after 18:00. Lolita’s Bar is open to men aged 24 and above, and women no younger than 21. As their slogan rightly states: It’s a lifestyle!
