SA Pipe Band Championships

The air will come alive with the rousing sound of bagpipes and drums on Saturday, 26 July 2025, as St Benedict’s College in Bedfordview proudly hosts the South African Pipe Band Championships.

With over 5,000 spectators expected, this prestigious national gathering will bring together more than 200 talented competitors — including top pipe bands from across the country and acclaimed Drum Majors from Northern Ireland — in a spectacular celebration of music, tradition, and culture.

The full-day programme promises a feast for the senses as bands compete in precision-driven performances, showcasing musical excellence, discipline, and flair. The grand finale features a stirring Massed Band Display, where all participating bands perform together in a breathtaking show of unity and sound — a powerful tradition and the highlight of the championships.

Adding further vibrancy to the day is a Highland Dancing Competition, as well as a bustling craft market, diverse food vendors, and a festive beer tent. Families are warmly welcomed, with a dedicated kids’ play area ensuring younger visitors are entertained throughout the day.
