Weekends are precious, especially when you have little adventurers in the family. From outdoor markets with delicious treats to indoor roller skating rinks, rock climbing gyms, and more, Pretoria offers an array of experiences that will keep your kids entertained and create lasting memories for the whole family. Let’s dive into the top five things to do in Pretoria with kids this weekend, ensuring you have a weekend filled with fun, laughter, and quality family time.
1. Rollercade
Menlyn Park’s roller-skating family rink will keep you wheely warm this winter. It’s a safe and friendly environment where both beginner and advanced roller-skaters can get rolling to the beat of some funky tunes. There is even a dedicated party and function area, where your group can get together to have some proper old-school fun. Space is limited and bookings are required for roller-skating sessions. They do offer rental skates and there is a spectators’ fee of R40 applicable.
2. Busstop 7 Market
If you’re looking for an outdoor market where you can browse while you munch, this is it. Plus, they also have lovely tables and seating where you can indulge in whatever tickles your fancy – from pancakes to pizzas. Local artists showcase their work here and the nursery at the entrance is one that we rank quite high. There is also a huge sandpit with loads of toys and an old airplane has been fixed overhead, providing some shade for the littles as they gleefully get their hands dirty in the sand. There is often also live music at the market and the overall experience is bound to be a memorable one for the whole family.

3. Climbing Barn
They claim to be Pretoria’s number one rock climbing gym and are located on a plot in Pretoria East. They offer various packages, including a day rate of R120 per adult, which gets you in for a day of climbing and bouldering. The Climbing Barn also offers introduction courses and gear can be rented. This could be quite a fun outing for adventurous families keen on doing something constructive together.
4. Hyto Tyto
You can never know of too many family-friendly places if you’re parents to toddlers. Take a breather from the first quarter and let the kids run free at Hyto Tyto in Midstream. There’s a tractor with a wagon for kids to ride on, lovely jungle gyms, a huge fountain for kids to splash in, and even a cute little fairy garden, complete with a ladybird crossing. In addition, there is a lovely eatery too, where parents can indulge in some yummy treats, wine, gin on tap and handpicked craft beers.
5. Bounce Menlyn
Menlyn Maine’s Bounce branch is another family favourite in Pretoria, with lots of bouncing options to choose from. In addition to the trampolines, there is also a lovely play area and depending on kids’ ages, you can choose between the general Bounce area, or the miniBOUNCE Zone for kids under 125cm tall. The miniBOUNCE Zone was only added to the Menlyn Main branch recently, so it’s still brand-new!
