New experiences at The Linden Market Christmas

The Takeaway

selection of food at a Joburg weekend market

The time has come where we can throw our heads back, forget about all the ups and downs of the past year and celebrate life with our family, friends and loved ones more than ever. They don’t call it the silly season for nothing you know. And we’re about to show you why at the upcoming Joburg weekend market experience.

The Linden Market, or TLM as it’s become known, is a proudly South African market, in the heart of Johannesburg, set in the exquisite Botanical Gardens of Emmarentia that brings top local craft and entertainment to the community.

The Christmas Edition, has a line-up of awe-inspiring entertainment and vendors, showcasing the highest quality fashion, accessories, decor, furniture, body products and gifts… to mouth-watering artisanal foods and craft drinks that will leave you wanting more!

Visitors can expect over 150 stalls, Authentic food, Craft drinks, TLM Preloved Bock, Fashion Show, Festive Workshops, Tea Garden, Kids Activities & Entertainment, Live Music and more. Here is a brief look at what’s on offer this year:

Benji & Moon Date-A-Dog Initiative

The famous Date-a-Dog in collaboration with CLAW and Benji+Moon initiative will be returning to the market this year. This initiative helps rescue dogs find a new home, with visitors getting to take homeless pups out for a short walk around the market, give them some love and if the “date” goes well, start the process of adoption. If you already have a dog you are also welcome to bring it to the market, just make sure to keep them on their leash while inside public spaces.

TLM Pre-Loved Block

The popular TLM Pre-Loved Block will once again be an addition to enjoy at this popular Joburg weekend market.. The block is broken up into several lanes:

Upcycle with @robdartworks

THis is an exciting new initiative with @robdartworks, who is one of Jozi’s most talented graffiti artists, will be upcycling pre-loved or sentimental items, by giving them a completely new look or purpose. The public is invited to bring old items that they would like to give new life to. The Pre-Loved Block will feature a live upcycling session with @robdartworks.

Pop-Up Tattoo Caravan with @ting_tattoo

@ting_tattoo will be popping up at The Linden Market Christmas Edition with a tattoo caravan, which will be a very first for TLM. In celebration of this first for TLM, you can expect huge specials over the two days.

Ting will be taking pre-bookings via email [email protected] for the morning between 9am an 12pm and walk-ins in the afternoon. Check her out at @ting_tattoo and keep an eye out on our social media pages to pre-book your session.

As if the vintage experience wasn’t enough, TLM Preloved Block will be hosting a live DJ performance throughout the day, playing 80s and 90s retro music. There will also be a selection of vintage cars on display to hype up the nostalgia.

TLM Fashion Show

TLM will be hosting a fashion show affair, for all those fashionistas out there. Traders and designers will be given the opportunity to showcase their brands in a unique way. At 14h00 designers will take to the grounds and captivate everyone with their fashion labels and garments, through a group catwalk type experience. Some of the designers one can exopect are, Redialle, Harem, Gyseyrose, McAlpine, just to name a few.

Interactive Festive Workshops

One of the key reasons why markets are so popular the world over is because people get an opportunity to ‘get their hands dirty’. Well at TLM they do not intend to disappoint. There are three different interactive workshops planned over the two days:

Saturday, 27th November – Wreath Making Workshop

“Where creativity meets sustainability to give life to floral works of art…”

Wreath-making workshop host, Teneale, specializes in sustainable floral design and has a passion for sustainable floristry. Come learn and be inspired by one of the industry’s best. Booking is essential and the best part is that you’ll get to take your work home with you.

Saturday, 27th November – Ceramics Workshop

Join Tarryn & Craig for a beginners hand-building workshop, where you will be introduced to the wonderful world of pottery. Participants will have the opportunity to create two ceramic pieces and the best part is that you do not need any experience to join the class.

The rate is R850pp and there are two time slots: 10h00 and 13;00.

Everything you need will be supplied.

Sunday, 28th November – Earring Making Workshop

Tickets are R600pp and be sure to pre-book your place as there is only one time slot of 10h00.

TLM Tea Garden

Cupcakes on display at the market

The team at TLM have gone out of their way to create a tea garden with installation art, seating and live music where one can indulge in meringues and brownies not to forget your cuppa tea. Stroll around the selection of art, gifts and decor and even get the opportunity to buy yourself a plant to take home.

Do not leave the Tea Garden without grabbing a cuppa from Setsong. Setsong means culture in Sepedi, and they manufacture a range of artisanal teas which are manufactured by community members and include hand crafted infusions from indigenous African flora found in the natural landscapes of Limpopo. What an awesome initiative.

Kids activities, live music and entertainment

To top it all off, there will be live entertainment, throughout the two days and a host of activities for the little ones to get stuck into. Paint & tie-dye shirt making, face painting, a professional stilt walker entertaining kids with balloons and even a traditional jumping castle.

Make time to spend with friends and family and come enjoy a weekend out the JOZI outdoors, whilst supporting incredible local makers!
