Mabula ups its game with a brand-new villa added to its offering
Multi-generational travel is a concept that has been increasing in popularity across the globe. Even in South Africa, lodges and leading venues have been noticing in influx of multi-generational families travelling together. Hence, it didn’t come as much of a surprise when the popular Mabula Private Game Reserve jumped on the bandwagon, launching a cosy, luxury villa to cater to these kinds of travellers and other groups.
The Big 5 game reserve is now home to the brand-new Kingfisher Villa, based right in front of a waterhole, boasting a tranquil setting and magnificent views. Its five luxury bedrooms – one of them being what we’d refer to as the Executive Suite – come with all the bells and whistles and have been decorated with rich African tassels and tones.
A porch with lovely day beds and chairs hugs the recently renovated house from one side to the other, with a lovely outdoor lounge setup at the far end. It is here where we were welcomed with hand and foot massages amidst birdsong and a cool early-winter breeze. We kept our gaze on the waterhole in front of us, optimistically waiting for pairs of croc eyes to pop up from the water. While we did not spot any crocodiles there, our afternoon and morning game drives offered some exciting sightings. In fact, we happened to spot a croc covering an impressive distance on foot, from one waterhole to the next. That, as well as lions, elephants, wild dogs, rhinos and more.
