NEW KitKat Slabs: The Break Jozi Didn’t Know It Needed

KitKat South Africa launches new flavours hit campaign

Chocolate lovers, rejoice — Nestlé’s KitKat team has just taken South Africa’s favourite “break” to a whole new level. The launch of KitKat Slabs has introduced a trio of indulgent new flavours — Salted Caramel, Hazelnut, and Double Chocolate — crafted to give Jozi tastemakers (and the rest of us) a reason to pause, savour and celebrate.

South Africa’s Sweet Tooth

South Africans are serious about chocolate. According to the South African Confectionery Market, over 52% of adults enjoyed chocolate in the past month. Therefore, chocolate is not just a treat, but a way of life. Furthermore, chocolate accounts for more than half of the country’s total confectionery consumption, and with demand steadily rising, it’s no surprise that South Africa is now one of the continent’s leading chocolate consumers.

The introduction of KitKat Slabs taps into this growing appetite for richer, more expressive chocolate experiences — and signals Nestlé’s commitment to redefining indulgence.

KitKat launches NEW flavours

Breaking the Mould

The new slabs are not just bigger KitKats — they’re a reinvention of the chocolate break itself. By pairing the brand’s iconic crispy wafer with creamy fillings and a marbled, visually striking chocolate design, KitKat has created a treat that’s multi-sensory, playful, and undeniably premium.

Robin Lesch, Category Marketing Manager for Confectionery at Nestlé ESAR, summed it up: “The journey to KitKat Slabs has been shaped by clear consumer insights. We have seen a consistent shift towards premiumisation, with younger audiences seeking multi-sensory products that deliver on taste, texture, and visual appeal. At the same time, consumers are demanding brands that offer playful self-expression while still meeting their need for indulgence and quality. KitKat Slabs were developed in direct response to these trends, signalling our commitment to evolve with our consumers and to continually redefine what a chocolate break can mean in today’s culture”.

Meet the Flavours

Subsequently, each slab is designed for moments of indulgence, whether you’re sharing or savouring solo.

1. Salted Caramel – Smooth caramel paired with KitKat wafer and a marbled chocolate swirl.

2. Hazelnut – Rich hazelnut flavour blended with creamy textures and that signature wafer crunch.

3. Double Chocolate – A decadent cocoa explosion, layered for chocolate lovers who simply want it all.

KitKat recommends their tasting ritual, because these slabs are not just a snack but an experience that deserves intention:

LOOK: Notice the signature marbling hinting at the craft within.

BREAK: A crisp snap signal a moment to pause.

TASTE: Let the layers melt, revealing textures and unexpected notes.

REFLECT: What are you tasting? What mood are you in? Which flavour matches it?

“South Africans are hungry for bold flavours and playful experiences,” said Kina Mkhize, Senior Brand Manager for KitKat ESAR. “This launch arrived at the perfect time to inspire people to take a well-deserved break. With KitKat Slabs, our goal was to evolve the meaning of the break for today’s consumer. In today’s fast-paced world, people often forget to pause, especially as the year draws to a close and fatigue sets in. Slabs were created as a reminder to reclaim those moments. They’re designed for sharing, for self-expression and for celebrating life’s little breaks in a way that feels uplifting.”

Where to Find Them

KitKat Slabs hit shelves nationally in September 2025 at major retailers across South Africa. However, stock may vary, so check your local store to ensure you don’t miss out on the break that’s set to redefine chocolate indulgence.
