1. KwaNzimakwe Experience

The trails at KwaNzimakwe traverse the scenic Mpenjati River Valley and range from approximately 4km to 22km, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. The route passes through rural landscapes with opportunities to spot wildlife and birdlife, and bookings are required in advance before riding the trails.

Why #HelloRecommends: This is one of the most scenic and culturally rich riding experiences on the KZN South Coast, offering more than just a ride — it’s a community-based tourism experience that combines nature, local culture and adventure in one route.

2.Umdoni Park Trails

Umdoni Park offers a network of forest and coastal trails that loop through indigenous forest, grasslands and scenic viewpoints, with multiple route options including shorter forest trails and longer loop rides. Trails are open during the day and all routes connect back to the main Umdoni Loop, making navigation relatively easy.

Why #HelloRecommends: Few rides combine coastal forest, ocean views and technical singletrack quite like Umdoni. It’s a beautiful ride that feels remote while still being accessible, making it ideal for a full day outdoors.

3. Clearwater Trail Centre

Located near the Mtamvuna River, Clearwater Trail Centre offers multiple routes ranging from easy 2km rides to longer 16km trails. The routes pass through plantations, forest, grasslands, dams and river crossings, and many of the trails start or end at Beaver Creek Coffee Estate.

Why #HelloRecommends: Clearwater is perfect for riders who want variety — flowing singletrack, river crossings, scenic viewpoints and a coffee stop at the end. It’s one of the most diverse trail networks on the South Coast.

The Ingeli Forest trails wind through indigenous forest, plantations and farmland, with routes ranging roughly from 18km to 30km and including stream crossings and waterfall sections. The trails cater to a range of fitness levels and are located within one of KwaZulu-Natal’s largest indigenous forests.

Lake Eland Game Reserve

Set along the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, Lake Eland Game Reserve is a dream for mountain bikers who enjoy a mix of scenery and adventure. The reserve’s network of trails winds through rolling hills, grasslands and forest sections, with regular sightings of wildlife along the way. Expect flowing routes, rewarding climbs and wide views across the dramatic landscapes of nearby Oribi Gorge. It is the kind of ride where you will want to pause often, not because you have to, but because the surroundings are worth taking in.

Why #HelloRecommends: It is the kind of destination where the ride becomes part of a bigger day out, with suspension bridges, viewpoints and nature walks waiting once you hop off the bike.
