Botswana-born artist Kelebogile Marope wins the 2026 FNB Art Prize and will present a solo exhibition in Johannesburg in 2027.
Joburg’s newest indoor playground is not filled with ball pits and foam blocks. This one comes armed with skate ramps, esports PCs, production studios and enough creative energy to keep restless Joburgers occupied for hours.
Opening to the public at Rosebank Mall from 1 August 2026, The Urban Playground brings sport, gaming, entertainment and content creation together on Level 4.
Visitors can tackle the skate park, compete on a 3v3 underground street-soccer court or settle into the esports lounge for a tournament. There are also foosball tables, a street-art gallery and a studio for dance rehearsals and live performances.
The creative facilities stretch beyond casual entertainment. Photographers, filmmakers, musicians and podcasters will have access to dedicated production studios, while entrepreneurs can use the working area when inspiration arrives somewhere between a kickflip and a cappuccino.
A coffee shop, merchandise store, changing rooms, showers, lockers and private rooms for parties or meetings complete the offering.
Creator Adriano Franco says the concept challenges the idea that people must choose one passion: “A skater might also be a filmmaker. A dancer might also want to try gaming. This space gives them room to do both.”
Media personality Robot Boii has also joined the Rosebank venue as a strategic partner.

The Urban Playground is accessible above Incredible Connection or through Rosebank Mall’s Level 4 rooftop entrance.
Upcoming events include Stage: NEON Fist on 15 August, the NOTW dance and art event on 29 and 30 August, and the RE:PLAY Festival on 5 September.
Visit the launch on 1 August for DJs, live entertainment and a skate competition. Whether you arrive to game, dance, create or simply watch Joburg’s next generation do its thing, The Urban Playground gives Rosebank another compelling reason to stay out and play.
