Beautiful Leaf-Peeping Travel Destinations for Autumn 2026
Ah, autumn. The season that makes the end of summer feel surprisingly welcome. Cooler days roll in, wardrobes move to richer textures and suddenly looking
There’s something about arriving at Sun City with the Pilanesberg hills rising in the distance that instantly reminds you why people travel halfway across the world to visit South Africa. And that’s exactly the point behind the Mega Lekker Escape at Sun City in the Pilanesberg – a large-scale tourism initiative by South African Tourism that invites international travel agents to experience the country first-hand before recommending it to their clients.
Recently, Hello Lifestyle Magazine (read our latest edition) joined the final leg of this year’s Mega Lekker Escape at the iconic Sun City Resort, where more than a hundred travel professionals from Australia and New Zealand gathered after exploring the country on immersive itineraries across eight provinces. The goal? Simple. Let them see South Africa properly.
Because once you’ve stood in the bush at sunrise or shared a braai under the African sky, selling the destination becomes very easy.
For the past three years, the Mega Lekker Escape has been bringing international travel agents to South Africa for a full sensory introduction to the country. This year, 110 travel professionals travelled across the country on 11 simultaneous itineraries, experiencing everything from wildlife safaris to coastal towns, cultural sites and community tourism projects.
Only after those journeys did everyone regroup at the legendary Sun City Resort in the Pilanesberg National Park region for a trade engagement that brought tourism operators and international buyers together.
Hello Lifestyle joined the gathering at Sun City and quickly realised something important: this wasn’t a traditional conference. It felt more like a celebration of South African hospitality.
Agents swapped safari stories. Lodge owners discussed new itineraries. Conservationists spoke about wildlife protection. And everywhere you looked, conversations centred around one thing – sharing the country’s experiences with future travellers.
If you’re planning your own visit to this area, we’ve previously explored some of the unique experiences at Sun City, including Sun City’s Outdoor Slot Machines – a First in South Africa and the tranquil luxury of Summer Serenity at the Cascades Hotel.
"The only way to truly understand South Africa is to experience it".

The thinking behind the Mega Lekker Escape Mega Lekker Escape at Sun City in the Pilanesberg is refreshingly straightforward.
If travel agents truly understand a destination, they can recommend it with confidence. And these agents are often responsible for helping travellers decide where to spend significant holiday budgets.
Instead of keeping the visitors confined to one showcase location, the programme intentionally spreads them across the country. Agents meet guides, chefs, lodge owners and community tourism operators. They step inside conservation projects. They experience the landscapes.
By the time they reach Sun City, they’re no longer reading from brochures. They’re speaking from experience.
For many of the visiting travel agents, the gathering at Sun City was their first introduction to the Pilanesberg region – and the reaction was immediate.
The setting alone is unforgettable. Ancient volcanic hills. Wide open plains. Wildlife moving through the bush. And just minutes away, the legendary entertainment hub of Sun City.
It’s a combination that makes the region incredibly appealing to international travellers looking to combine safari experiences with leisure and entertainment.
