Semi-Soet – The Musical Brings Afrikaans Romance to Montecasino

Inspired by the popular South African romantic comedy, the musical follows Jaci and JP as they attempt to convince the world that they are hopelessly in love. Predictably, the performance soon becomes far more real than either of them intended.

Anel Alexander and Bobby van Jaarsveld return as Jaci and JP, joined by Naledi-nominated performers Zöricke Snyman and Philip Schnetler, as well as Nadia Beukes.

The Johannesburg production has been reworked for The Teatro, with a larger cast, new creative elements, expanded visuals and a few surprises tucked into the wings. Audiences can also expect new music, including Marcelle Peach’s Rek Strek Baba, alongside songs by Johan Vorster and Jacomien de Wet.

It is the kind of proudly local night at the theatre that does not demand homework. Long-time fans will recognise the characters and romantic chaos, while newcomers can simply settle in for the humour, music and uncomfortable truth that love rarely sticks to the script.
