Cape Town’s First Ceremony Matcha Bar Opens on Sea Point Promenade

A new chapter for mindful sipping, flavour and community

Ceremony Matcha Bar opens in Cape Town

Cape Town’s wellness scene just got a new ritual. Ceremony Matcha Bar has officially opened its doors on the Sea Point Promenade, bringing with it a serene blend of Japanese tradition, mindful living and ocean-front calm.

Founded by Mikayla McClean, Ceremony Matcha has quickly become a name synonymous with modern wellness and elevated daily ritual since its launch in 2022. This new matcha bar marks the brand’s next evolution — a physical space where locals and visitors can experience the art of matcha in its purest, most intentional form. Here, matcha is more than just a trend; it is a lifestyle.

Where Ritual Meets the Coast

Steps away from the Atlantic Ocean, the new space captures the slow, grounding energy of the coastline. Inside, travertine textures, natural woods and soft coastal hues set the tone for a tranquil escape. Every detail has been designed to reflect Ceremony’s philosophy: minimal, sensory and deeply intentional. It brings their wellness-first ethos to life.

“Ceremony has always been about more than matcha"

A Menu Crafted with Purpose

The menu, developed in collaboration with Michelin-trained chef Kira Jacobs, blends Japanese tradition with South African flair. Expect layered matcha lattes, roasted hōjicha with chai spices, honey-kissed cold brews, and savoury bakes elevated with Japanese shichimi togarashi. Each creation celebrates the depth and versatility of Ceremonial Grade Matcha, sustainably sourced from Kagoshima, Japan.

A Space for Connection

Beyond its beautiful brews, the Ceremony Matcha Bar is designed as a gathering point for community — a space for yoga flows, sound journeys, slow mornings and meaningful connection. “Ceremony has always been about more than matcha,” says McClean. “It’s about creating moments of presence and connection. The bar is an extension of that – a place to pause, sip and savour.”

With the ocean as its backdrop and intention in every cup, the Ceremony Matcha Bar invites Cape Town to pause, sip and savour the simple ritual of being present.

Ester Ochse From FNB Shares 10 Money Watchpoints For South Africans

South Africans may joke that the Budget Speech is background noise – until someone mentions fuel levies. Then, suddenly, everyone listens. And rightfully so. The real weight of the National Budget isn’t carried in Parliament; it shows up in everyday moments: at the petrol station, in the grocery aisle or when payday hits and the numbers simply don’t stretch the way they used to.

Beautiful Leaf-Peeping Travel Destinations for Autumn 2026

Ah, autumn. The season that makes the end of summer feel surprisingly welcome. Cooler days roll in, wardrobes move to richer textures and suddenly looking at trees, kicking through leaves and taking long walks in the countryside feels like the obvious thing to do. And then there’s the colour. Trees turn, hillsides glow and everything feels a little more cinematic.
