Anyone who has attempted to order a cult beauty product from overseas knows the routine: currency conversion, expensive shipping, customs charges and a nervous wait to see whether the parcel actually arrives.
Takealot plans to make that process considerably simpler through a new partnership with US beauty discovery platform Thirteen Lune.
Announced on 28 August 2026, the exclusive agreement will make Takealot the South African home of an evolving portfolio of international beauty brands, many of which have not previously been readily available locally.
Founded in 2020 by beauty entrepreneur Nyakio Grieco, Thirteen Lune was created to showcase innovative, founder-led brands and make prestige beauty more inclusive.
The platform champions products developed for customers across different skin tones, hair textures and cultural backgrounds. According to the company, the Takealot partnership represents its first expansion beyond the United States.
For Grieco, whose family has Kenyan roots, South Africa was a particularly meaningful destination for that next chapter.
“My family’s roots are on the African continent, and returning to Africa through a partnership with Takealot feels incredibly meaningful,” she says. “We were looking for more than a retailer—we were looking for a partner whose values aligned with ours.”
The first release will include Relevant: Your Skin Seen, Grieco’s inclusive skincare brand. The remaining partner brands will be announced ahead of the official launch.
The wider collection is expected to span skincare, cosmetics, haircare, fragrance and wellness, combining cult international names with emerging founder-led businesses.
For Takealot, the move is about capturing a larger share of South Africa’s growing online beauty market while giving shoppers easier access to premium products through local fulfilment.
“This is far more than the launch of new beauty brands,” says Ryan Ferreira, Head of Retail at Takealot. “Together, we’re introducing some of the world’s most exciting beauty brands to South Africa.”
Takealot also plans to support the range with beauty content, creators and physical experiences, indicating that its ambitions stretch beyond adding another product category to an already crowded digital shelf.
The real test will come when the complete brand list, pricing and launch date are revealed. However, easier local access to internationally recognised beauty products—with fewer customs surprises—is welcome news for South African shoppers. Keep an eye on Takealot’s beauty store as the first Thirteen Lune collection prepares to land.
