Elephant Point River Suites Brings a New Kind of Luxury Safari to Greater Kruger
Elephant Point River Suites opens on 15 May 2026 in the Greater Kruger, bringing a new villa-style luxury safari experience near Kruger National Park.
From the 15th of May 2026, Elephant Point River Suites officially opens in the Greater Kruger, introducing a villa-style safari stay set along one of the most sought-after stretches of the Sabie River.
Brought to life by Legacy Group, Elephant Point River Suites takes the already established Elephant Point experience in a fresh direction. This time, the focus is on a fully serviced, all-inclusive stay that blends privacy, comfort and an immediate connection to the bush. And, for travellers looking for a luxury safari lodge near Kruger National Park, this is the kind of opening that will turn heads.
Set just five kilometres from the Paul Kruger Gate, Elephant Point Private Reserve stretches across more than three kilometres of Kruger-facing Sabie River frontage. As a result, guests are placed in a remarkable position where wildlife moves freely through the landscape and the rhythm of the bush becomes part of everyday life.
What makes Elephant Point River Suites stand out is its philosophy of Safari Done Differently.
Instead of rushing from one sighting to the next, the experience here encourages guests to slow down and let nature come to them. Along the riverbanks, elephants, hippos, antelope and other wildlife move through the reserve in full view of terraces, pools and shared spaces. So, rather than feeling like a spectator, each guest becomes part of the story unfolding around them.
That sense of connection has been built into the design from the start. Tunnels, bridges and concealed pathways help preserve the natural movement of wildlife, while also giving guests striking vantage points across the reserve. In other words, every arrival, walkway and river-facing view has been considered with both nature and experience in mind.
When it comes to accommodation, Elephant Point River Suites moves away from the standard hotel setup and leans into something more spacious and personal.
Each suite has been designed as a private retreat, complete with open-plan interiors, layered living spaces and uninterrupted views of the Sabie River and surrounding bushveld. Sizes range from 122 to 293 square metres, giving guests room to stretch out and settle in properly. Private terraces, plunge pools and dedicated study areas also make these suites appealing for both short breaks and longer stays.
At the same time, guests still enjoy the service expected from a top-tier safari property. A dedicated 24-hour butler service helps with everything from in-suite dining to arranging activities, making the experience feel polished without losing that relaxed, home-away-from-home atmosphere.
“Elephant Point is another powerful expression of our belief in South Africa—its landscapes, its people, and its extraordinary potential,”
Bart Dorrestein, Chairman of Legacy Group.
Another highlight of Elephant Point River Suites is its food offering, which looks set to become one of the property’s biggest talking points.
The culinary direction has been developed with two-star Michelin chef Conrad Gallagher through his consultancy, Food Concepts 360. The result is a dining experience rooted in modern African cuisine, while still feeling grounded in the landscape around it.
The signature restaurant, SAN, focuses on fire-led cooking, seasonal produce and flavours that speak to place. Meanwhile, TILO brings a more social energy, with a cocktail lounge setting, shared plates and drinks inspired by indigenous botanicals. Together, the two venues give guests a food journey that feels both refined and easy to enjoy.
Of course, a modern luxury safari experience in the Greater Kruger is no longer only about game drives. Increasingly, travellers want stays that balance rest, wellbeing and a sense of purpose.
That’s where Elephant Point River Suites adds another layer. The on-site spa promises immersive, nature-inspired treatments, while the wider wellness offering includes a gym, yoga terrace, walking trails, plus padel and tennis courts. So whether guests want deep rest or something more active, there are plenty of ways to reset between safari moments.
Importantly, the development also places a strong emphasis on sustainability. Solar-powered infrastructure, water management systems and the preservation of wildlife corridors all form part of the bigger picture. In addition, the project has already contributed significantly to job creation, with more than 1,000 jobs created during construction and a further 300 permanent roles linked to the hotel’s operation.
Guests can also engage with community-focused initiatives through Legacy Pride, the group’s non-profit programme supporting vulnerable families through food security work. That wider impact gives the development added substance, especially for travellers who want their stay to connect with something more meaningful.
Although the reserve itself does much of the heavy lifting, guests won’t be short of experiences.
The offering includes up to two daily guided game drives, bush walks, spa treatments and curated culinary moments. Beyond that, visitors can also explore well-known attractions such as the Panorama Route, Graskop Gorge and adventure experiences in Hazyview. Helicopter outings, cultural village visits and nearby golf courses add even more variety for those wanting to shape their safari around different interests.
So yes, there is the classic bush element. But there is also enough range here to appeal to couples, groups of friends, multigenerational travellers and anyone looking for a safari escape that feels more layered.
With its riverfront setting, architectural sensitivity, all-inclusive service and strong sense of place, Elephant Point River Suites is stepping into the market with serious intent.
For travellers searching for a luxury safari lodge near Kruger National Park, or simply looking for a more immersive way to experience the bush, this new opening adds something exciting to the Greater Kruger conversation. From 15 May 2026, guests will be invited to settle into a safari stay where the views are immediate, the service feels personal and nature always takes centre stage.
