Nando’s Stellenbosch: Flame, Flavour and Art in the Woodmill Precinct
Nando’s new Stellenbosch restaurant combines garden dining, South African design and a striking mosaic by Clive van den Berg in the historic Woodmill precinct.
A fresh blow-dry might win someone over for a day. Keeping them coming back for colour, extensions and cuts takes technical skill, consistency and a whole lot of trust. Nudo Hair Lab has been building that loyalty since opening in Pretoria in 2017, growing to four salons across Gauteng and Cape Town. The latest? A seriously chic new space at SunTyger Centre in Tygervalley. Naturally, we had to investigate! We took our place in the stylist’s chair to see how the colour, extensions and styling measure up to the reputation Nudo has built up north.

Arriving at SunTyger Centre, just outside the bustle of Tygervalley Shopping Centre, feels pleasantly laid-back. Nudo’s black ceilings, concrete floors and illuminated circular mirrors give the salon a contemporary edge, while the team brings the warmth I remembered from Pretoria. Even the refreshments deserve a mention: a white-chocolate latte, anyone?
Then came my consultation with Ida, which changed the plan. As a devoted bright blonde, I tend to book the same highlights without revisiting what my hair needs. A proper colour discussion should consider natural regrowth, skin tone, previous processing and maintenance. Ida noticed my darker roots and proposed babylights instead. These ultra-fine foils create a more diffused transition, making regrowth less obvious. Strategic placement can also limit overlap with already-lightened lengths. I hesitated at the thought of losing brightness, but her reasoning convinced me.
First, my Mayne tape-in extensions came out, followed by a clarifying wash to remove adhesive residue and a quick dry. Ida applied Schwarzkopf Professional BLONDME lightener through meticulously sectioned foils. Its bond-protection technology is designed to minimise breakage during lifting, while toner helps neutralise warmth for my preferred creamy, cool finish. A moisture mask refreshed the lengths ahead of reapplication.
Meanwhile, the team removed old adhesive, deep-cleaned and retaped the extensions before matching them to my newly coloured hair. Placement is everything with tapes: sections must sit discreetly, distribute weight evenly and allow natural movement. Ida got it spot-on. The colour match was excellent, with comfortable attachments that stayed secure throughout eight weeks of wear.
After a glossy blow-dry and loose waves, I had my bright blonde back, now with a softer transition at the roots. Even better, nobody seemed to be watching the clock. The stylists paid attention to every little detail, and that relaxed, upbeat energy atmosphere carried through the entire visit.
There’s plenty beyond blonding: cuts, root tints, balayage, smoothing services, conditioning treatments and Mayne wefts. Men have a dedicated barber, while Nudo Beauty Lab at the same address takes care of lashes, brows and waxing too. A beauty morning with everything under one roof? I’d absolutely book again.
