The Ideal Guide on How To Roast the Perfect Autumn Brew
Autumn is a season of subtle shifts. The light softens, the air cools and our daily rituals begin to be showered in leaves of orange
There’s a new table to book in Cape Town’s southern suburbs, and travellers (whether local or international) are already talking.
Veld & Vine Bistro in Claremont has officially opened inside the elegant grounds of The Claremont Boutique Hotel. And while the address carries history, the dining experience feels modern and welcoming yet still rooted in the land around it.
Think seasonal ingredients, Western Cape produce, Mediterranean touches, and long lunches that stretch into late afternoons. In short, Veld & Vine Bistro in Claremont is exactly the kind of neighbourhood spot people have been hoping for.
The restaurant forms part of the Sabi Sabi Collection, known for its safari lodges in the Greater Kruger National Park. Now the group has brought that same sense of place to Cape Town’s food scene.
The food leans into the seasons and the surrounding farms of the 1928 manor house.
Expect ingredients that speak of the Western Cape – free-range meats, fresh harvest vegetables and responsibly sourced seafood. The menu moves from light starters to comforting mains, with plenty of local wine to match.
Start with large Knysna oysters or a plate of tuna crudo.
Then perhaps lamb chops, a vegetable and chickpea curry, or the crowd-pleasing Wagyu burger with triple-cooked fries.
Dessert deserves attention too. The chocolate torte is rich and indulgent, while the lemon miso tart brings a bright finish to the table.
Seasonal specials will shift throughout the year, giving regular diners something new to return for.

Co-owner Sanjay Daya describes the vision simply: a welcoming local destination where good food and good company meet.
Breakfast begins early. Coffee on the terrace is encouraged. Then, lunch rolls slowly into the afternoon before dinner settles into candlelight.
The restaurant also adds a new chapter to the story of The Claremont Boutique Hotel – a heritage property that has long been part of the neighbourhood’s fabric.
Marketing director Jacques Smit from the Sabi Sabi Collection believes the experience ties directly into the group’s broader philosophy. The idea is simple: tell South African stories through place, flavour and atmosphere.
And with the vineyards of the Constantia Valley just down the road, the setting couldn’t be more fitting.
