There’s something dangerously comforting about opening Apple TV+ after a long day and suddenly realising you’ve accidentally committed to “just one episode” until 01h00. This week’s watchlist leans into the strange, emotional, dramatic and slightly chaotic, exactly how entertainment should feel. From mythical creatures having identity crises to legal thrillers that make family dinners feel tense, these are the titles currently demanding attention.
Animated chaos with heart? Apple TV+ seems to have cracked the formula.
My Brother the Minotaur follows a young minotaur raised in the human world who suddenly begins questioning where he truly belongs. What starts as a quirky animated adventure quickly turns into a surprisingly emotional story about identity, friendship and family. The pacing moves fast, the humour lands in all the right places and the animation has that colourful, slightly wild energy that keeps adults just as entertained as the kids pretending they aren’t watching. There’s also something oddly relatable about feeling completely out of place while trying to act normal at dinner parties. We suspect many readers may relate.
This one sits with viewers long after the credits roll.
Defending Jacob turns every parent’s worst nightmare into an intense psychological drama. Chris Evans steps away from superhero territory and into the role of a father trying to hold his family together after his son is accused of murdering a classmate. Michelle Dockery adds emotional depth while Jaeden Martell keeps viewers constantly questioning what the truth really is. The series thrives on uncertainty. Every conversation feels loaded. Every silence feels suspicious. It’s tense, unsettling and impossible to stop watching. Also, nobody trusts teenage boys with hoodies after episode three. That’s simply where the series leaves people emotionally.
Short film. Huge emotional impact.
This moving short film revisits the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech through the eyes of his sister. The storytelling feels personal rather than historical, which makes the emotional weight hit harder. Instead of simply retelling a famous moment, the film humanises the man behind the movement. It’s educational without sounding like homework and emotional without becoming overly sentimental. The shorter runtime also makes it easy viewing for families looking for meaningful content that still keeps younger viewers engaged. Some stories simply deserve revisiting, especially when told with this much warmth and honesty.
Dakota Johnson enters the superhero multiverse with plenty of mystery and more than a few awkward visions.
Madam Web leans into suspense, supernatural tension and comic-book chaos while introducing audiences to Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who suddenly develops clairvoyant powers. The film moves between psychological thriller and superhero origin story with enough twists to keep viewers engaged throughout. Dakota Johnson brings a quieter energy to the role, which actually works well against the film’s darker tone. The action sequences arrive quickly, the visuals are slick and the storyline keeps audiences questioning what’s real and what’s still to come. It’s strange in places, dramatic in others and exactly the kind of weekend movie viewers end up debating afterwards.
Family loyalty gets messy. Very messy.
Bad Sisters remains one of Apple TV+’s sharpest drama series and somehow manages to make murder feel weirdly entertaining. The Garvey sisters are fiercely protective of one another, which becomes problematic when their toxic brother-in-law suddenly dies under suspicious circumstances. Every episode peels back another layer of dysfunction, secrets and panic while balancing dark humour with emotional tension. The writing feels clever without trying too hard and the chemistry between the sisters keeps everything believable. It’s the kind of series that starts with “one episode before bed” and ends with readers aggressively cancelling morning plans because suddenly it’s 02h15.
Pixar goes full robotic-beaver chaos and somehow makes it adorable.
Hoppers follows Mabel, a college student who transfers her consciousness into a robotic beaver in order to save a forest from greedy developers. Yes, that sentence sounds ridiculous. Thankfully, the movie fully commits to the idea. The humour feels playful, the animation looks incredible and the environmental themes never become preachy. Instead, the story focuses on friendship, courage and learning how to communicate — even if that communication happens while swimming through rivers as a mechanical woodland animal. Pixar clearly had fun with this one. So will audiences. Also, robotic beavers may now officially become everyone’s emotional support animals.
