The Shakespeare Schools Festival Africa returns to Durban from 21 to 27 September 2026, bringing a week of youth theatre to the Courtyard Theatre at Durban University of Technology (DUT).

Now in its 16th year, the festival will see primary and high school learners and youth groups from across the region take to the stage with dynamic, abridged adaptations of Shakespeare’s classic plays.

As Africa’s largest youth drama festival, SSFA has reached more than 15,000 learners since 2009, using theatre to build literacy, confidence, creativity and a sense of belonging.

The festival is fully inclusive, welcoming young performers of all abilities, including Deaf, blind and physically disabled participants.

Experience a new generation of performers bringing Shakespeare’s timeless stories to life with energy, imagination and a distinctly contemporary perspective.
