From family holidays to school tours, discover how VPU helps organise visa paperwork, appointments and passport logistics—and what travellers should check first.
For Elizabeth Wambui, Dubai is a city that keeps moving forward while remaining connected to the stories that shaped it.
As an events organiser at the Museum of the Future, Wambui works at one of Dubai’s most recognisable destinations, helping create experiences designed to connect audiences with new ideas and the possibilities of tomorrow.
Her story forms part of ‘Beat of My Dubai’, a storytelling project by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) celebrating professionals and creatives who live, work and contribute to the city.
Originally from Kenya, Wambui moved to Dubai in October 2016, becoming part of the international community that has helped shape the city’s identity. Her work sits at the intersection of people, experiences and ideas, bringing audiences together in a destination where innovation is part of everyday life.
At the Museum of the Future, her role places her at the centre of experiences that invite people to imagine what comes next. For Wambui, this reflects something much broader about Dubai: the opportunity to be part of a city that continues to evolve while offering new ways to explore its culture, heritage and ambitions.
“Dubai is about possibilities. Every day brings a new experience, a new person and a new opportunity to create something meaningful. That is what keeps my beat moving"
Elizabeth Wambui
For visitors hoping to discover the city through her eyes, Wambui recommends beginning with its history before exploring its modern landmarks. At Al Shindagha Museum, visitors can discover stories of Dubai’s heritage, while a traditional breakfast at Arabian Tea House offers an opportunity to experience local flavours in a distinctive setting.
“Explore the old Dubai before the new,” she advises, recommending Al Shindagha Museum as a starting point. She also encourages visitors to experience the desert on a safari, discover the city by Metro or Big Bus, and learn a few Arabic words along the way. A simple “Ahlan” (hello) or “Shukran” (thank you), she believes, can make interactions with local communities even more meaningful.
Her favourite places reflect the many sides of Dubai. Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is her choice for fine dining, while Al Quoz offers a creative mix of coffee shops, fitness and arts. Dubai Mall combines shopping and dining with the spectacle of the Dubai Fountain, while Dubai Creek Harbour is a favourite for evening runs and views of the skyline.
For a different perspective, Wambui recommends breakfast at Atmosphere in Burj Khalifa, exploring the boutiques and waterfront setting of Souk Madinat Jumeirah, and visiting the Gold Souk to find memorable souvenirs. Dubai Design District, meanwhile, offers another window into the city’s creative community.
Although her work keeps her close to the future-facing experiences of the Museum of the Future, Wambui enjoys balancing the pace of city life with simple personal rituals. Exploring new dining experiences, playing paddle and enjoying a desert barbecue during Dubai’s cooler winter months are among her favourite ways to spend her time. She also enjoys filling out Sudoku puzzles and unwinding with a hammam whenever she can.
Her connection with Dubai is therefore not simply about the places she works in, but the people she encounters and the experiences she continues to discover. From historic neighbourhoods and traditional souks to contemporary cultural destinations, the city offers endless opportunities to see familiar surroundings from a different perspective.
Through ‘Beat of My Dubai’, Wambui invites visitors to remain curious, explore beyond the expected and discover a destination where heritage and innovation exist side by side. Her story reflects a city where possibility is not simply something to imagine, but something to experience.
