1. Oranjezicht City Farm Market

Few Saturday mornings begin better than a slow wander through the Oranjezicht City Farm Market near the V&A Waterfront.

Local farmers and producers pile their stalls with seasonal fruit, vegetables, bread, dairy products, preserves and edible plants. Then there is the prepared food: breakfasts, pastries, international dishes and enough good coffee to revive even the most enthusiastic Friday-night casualty.

When: Saturdays from 08:00 and Sundays from 08:30. A seasonal Wednesday night market also operates outside winter.

2. Bay Harbour Market

Set inside a repurposed fish factory in Hout Bay, Bay Harbour Market combines food, fashion, design and live music with the slightly salty personality of the harbour.

More than 100 traders offer everything from jewellery and leather goods to local clothing, sweet treats and global street food. It is indoors, making it an excellent escape when Cape Town’s weather decides to behave like four seasons sharing one Uber.

When: Fridays, 09:30–21:00; Saturdays and Sundays, 09:30–17:00.

3. Neighbourgoods Market

The Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill helped establish Cape Town’s modern market culture, and Woodstock still turns up for it every weekend.

Expect a lively mix of food, cocktails, fashion, music and design. Dietary options include Halaal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and organic choices. Dogs are welcome on leads, although navigating a busy market with an excitable Labrador remains an advanced-level sport.

When: Saturdays, 09:00–18:00; Sundays, 10:00–16:00.

4. Mojo Market

Mojo Market brings the food-hall experience to the heart of Sea Point. Open every day, it combines more than 40 food and retail vendors with bars, live entertainment and screenings of major sporting events.

Its long trading hours make it equally useful for breakfast, a family lunch or an evening of drinks and music. The variety is the real attraction: one table can quite reasonably contain sushi, pizza, Middle Eastern food and a plate of ribs.

When: Coffee and breakfast daily from 08:00; food stalls from 11:00 until late.

5. The Watershed

The Watershed is less traditional farmers’ market and more permanent showcase of contemporary African creativity.

Located beside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, its airy industrial space houses local designers working across fashion, jewellery, ceramics, art, homeware and natural beauty products. It is ideal when you want to take home something more meaningful than the standard airport souvenir.

When: Daily, 10:00–18:00.

6. Blue Bird Garage Food and Goods Market

Muizenberg’s Blue Bird Garage Market unfolds inside an old postal-plane hangar, where surf-town informality meets food, design and community.

Local cooks, bakers, makers and vintage traders fill the space on Thursday and Friday evenings. It is relaxed, slightly eccentric and refreshingly free from polish for polish’s sake. Arrive hungry and let the smells make the difficult decisions.

When: Thursdays and Fridays, 16:00–22:00.

7. Time Out Market Cape Town

Inside the V&A Waterfront’s historic Old Power Station, Time Out Market Cape Town gathers some of the city’s notable culinary talent under one roof.

With 13 kitchens, several bars and a live performance stage, it offers a useful shortcut through Cape Town’s food scene. Groups can order from different kitchens and still eat together—finally ending the ancient argument between burgers, seafood and curry.

When: Daily; main kitchens from 11:00, with breakfast available from 08:00.

8. Elgin Railway Market

The Elgin Railway Market is housed inside a striking Art Deco-inspired building in Grabouw, complete with metalwork, balconies and a giant clock.

Food traders serve everything from pizzas and curries to sweet treats, while local wines, craft beer and live music keep the room buzzing. The market makes an enjoyable day trip by road, but arriving aboard a scheduled heritage train turns lunch into a proper adventure.

When: Full market Saturdays and Sundays, 09:00–16:00.

9. Courtyard 53 Craft Market

Hidden in a leafy courtyard in Plumstead, Courtyard 53 offers a gentler alternative to Cape Town’s larger food halls.

Its periodic craft markets bring together small local businesses selling handmade products, clothing, décor, gifts and baked goods. The surrounding nursery, shops and garden café make it a pleasant place to linger after browsing. As this is a monthly rather than weekly market, confirm the next date before travelling.

When: Selected weekends; check the venue’s current event listings.

10. Lourensford Market

Set among vineyards and mountains at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, the

 is worth the drive when the aim is to turn shopping into a Winelands outing.

Food stalls, handmade goods, local wine and live music create a relaxed family atmosphere, with plenty of outdoor space for a long afternoon. The market is seasonal and closes during winter, reopening in spring.

When: From September, Friday evenings and Sundays. Confirm current seasonal hours before visiting.
